Vintage Martin Guitar

1971 Martin D-28 (manufactured in the fall of 1971). This has been the prized jewel of my collection for many years. 1971 Martin D-28’s were made famous by both Jimmy Page and Michael Hedges,…both were well known for their work with their trusty 1971 D-28’s.

This 40 year old instrument is in amazing, collectable condition. In 40 years it’s never been touched by any service tech, except by Martin themselves. There is barely a mark on this instrument. There are two small dings (see pictures), a couple light checking marks on the top, and some vintage yellowing of the binding. Besides that, this instrument is perfect. The only to flaws that were big enough to photograph are clearly shown in the photos below (on the top side of the neck).

Back in the day Martin used to perform full service on Martin instruments (they no longer do this). In September of 2002 I drove this to the Martin factory and had them perform $1,205.75 worth of reconditioning. Martin reset the neck, refretted the instrument, installed a new bridge, and replaced the original shrinking celluloid pickguard. I also had Martin install a Gold Plus (2nd generation) pickup. The receipt from the Martin repair work is shown in the photos, and will be included with the guitar. The guitar plays perfectly, and is in better condition than any 40 year old D-28 that you will ever find. No one has ever performed a drop of work on this instrument, except for the Martin factory. Since Martin has done the full restoration, I have barely played it. It’s been properly humidified, and kept safely in it’s case. No fret wear of any kind. The condition of this instrument is amazing, and the tone is to die for. Comes with a modern 3ply Martin (TKL) hardcase,….shown in photos.

Shipping costs are clearly listed in eBay’s dedicated shipping section. Please note that although this cost may seem high at times, it is in reality a shipping, handling, and packing material cost – and sometimes insurance costs. Please understand that packing material is not free, and packing for shipping is often a time consuming process that needs to be reasonably compensated for.

All items are shipped either FedEx Ground, UPS or through the USPS. Please include a phone number when you submit payment (this can be done in the memo section of your paypal payment) – because FedEx requires a phone number.

IN PERSON PICKUP POLICY:Any Item I sell can be picked up in person at my home in Hollywood, CA in order to save on any applicable shipping costs. Because payments cannot be cleared prior to leaving my premises with the item, ONLY cash will be accepted as payment if you choose an in person pickup. You will obviously NOT have to pay any shipping or handling fees, but the item must be picked up within 5 days of the auctions end date. No exceptions. I am located in the center of Hollywood, right off of the famous intersection of Hollywood & Highland Avenues – so I am incredibly easy to find.

RETURN POLICY:I am going to offer a 3 day return policy, because of the value of this instrument. If you feel any need to return this instrument, it must be on its way back to me within 3 days of you receiving it. You will assume all shipping, packing and insurance costs. This includes the initial shipping/packing/insurance,….and the return shipping/packing/insurance. The instrument must be returned by either FedEx Ground or UPS Ground,…fully insured. The instrument must be returned in the exact same condition that it was received in.
