Vintage 1957 Martin 00-28G Acoustic Guitar 

Old Growth Brazilian Rosewood

This guitar is in wonderful condition - ready to play!

Martin acoustic guitar, serial number 154196 (which means it was made in 1957), model 00-28G (the “G” stands for “Gut String Classical”), Brazilian rosewood construction.  This is a classic Martin with a deep, rich tone and superb sound projection.   It comes in what I believe is the original softshell case with blue plush interior.  The case has some wear but is in good shape otherwise.

The guitar has various tiny nicks & scratches that are common on an instrument that’s over fifty years old.  There are several very shallow and practically unnoticeable scratches on the front.  I didn’t see them until I looked really closely.  There is moderate varnish checking (crazing) on the front (quite common on a vintage instrument).  Other than that this guitar is in perfect condition.  To the best of my knowledge there are no adjustments or repairs necessary.  This amazing instrument is ready to boogy!

This guitar was bought new by the late husband of a friend of mine.  He played it at hootenannys back in the day.  He died in 1990.  At that time the guitar was put in its case and has not been played since.  That’s probably why it’s in such fine shape.

A guitar like this one wouldn’t be made today because old growth Brazilian rosewood has become really rare and current import/export laws prohibit its export.  I had a professional put new strings on it.  He appraised it for $6,200.  He wanted to sell it in his music store – said it would sell quickly.  However, he wanted a hefty commission so I decided to sell it on eBay.

Although I’m not much of a musician I tried this guitar out.  I was amazed at the deep, rich tone and the overall sound projection.  I have a guitar my wife gave me as a birthday present but it sounds nothing like this Martin.  Whoever buys this guitar will have one of the finest musical instruments I have ever seen.
