Vintage 1936 MARTIN Guitar style 0-18
1936 MARTIN Guitar style 0-18 (#63660). SOUNDS GREAT!!! Was repaired in October of 2003 for $900 which included the following: neck set, fret job, new old style bridge, bone saddle, glue all top cracks, full bridge plate, glue rear block, string & set-up.
INFO: The Style 18 Martin guitar (D-18, OM-18, 000-18, 00-18, 0-18) is a spruce top, mahogany body Martin guitar that has been the mainstream of the Martin guitar line since the mid-1800s. Awesome sound, many famous stars have used the Style 18 as their main guitar (for example Elvis Presley used a WW2-time Martin D-18 guitar as his main instrument during much of the 1950s). The Martin D-18 and other style 18 models are not the fanciest Martin model, but it's a good basic spruce-top, mahogany body gu
itar with a fantastic sound. A good bang for the buck, hence Martin sold a lot of them through their history. The "18" portion of the model indicates the style of the guitar. The letters before the "18" indicate the body size (0-18 being the smallest, 00-18 being larger, OM-18 and 000-18 being larger still, and D-18 being the largest). The models D-18 and OM-18 and 000-18 are regarded as "the best" sizes as applicable to today's musical styles. The OM-18 (1930-1933) is particularly interesting because of it's early design with modern features. Note there are some other style 18 models too like the OO-18G (gut string, 1936-1962), OO-18C (classical, 1962-1976), and the coolest OO-18K (Koa wood, 1918-1925). The gut and classical models are not really desirable. The 00-18k though is a really pretty model. Note when refering to the number of "frets", this means the number of frets clear of the body (not the total number of actual frets). This will be either 12 or 14 frets clear of the body.
