This is a nice old 1935 Martin R-17 archtop guitar. Ser # 60335. You don't see many of them around. I bought this one last year at the Arlington Guitar Show from a lady who inherited it from her Dad. It had been hand painted red on the top. (See photo) Over the winter I took off all the paint and refinished the whole body with lacquer. I did not refinish the neck or headstock. It turned out very well and should be good for many years to come. It is a real player now with good action. Notice that Martin did not raise the fretboard like other archtop guitars. That could be the reason a lot of these were changed to flat tops. I have had it refretted by Mark Cigainero from Ft Worth and he did a wonderful job. The only part not original is the pick guard. I put an old Tortoise shell on it, which is correct, and it looks very nice. It comes in an old brown chipboard case that I added more cushion inside. Shipping is $35 to lower 48 states. Here is some information on these guitars. Arch top body like a 00 size flat top, 20 frets with 14 frets clear of the body, 14 1/8" wide across the top, top not carved but arched with braces, mahogany top, back not carved but arched by braces, 3 piece f-holes, sunburst top finish. Introduced in 1934 and discontinued in 1942. If you want a fun old Martin you will like this one. International bidders must contact me before bidding for shipping costs.
