RARE Vintage '34 Martin USA R-18T R-18 Tenor Archtop Acoustic Guitar
RARE Vintage '34 Martin USA R-18T R-18 Tenor Archtop Acoustic Guitar
Welcome bidders, you are looking at an insanely cool vintage piece. This is the Vintage '34 Martin USA R-18T Tenor archtop acoustic guitar. 22.75" scale. 1.24" nut width. 14 7/16" bottom bout. 4" deep. Serial #: 58290. This is a gorgeous example of handbuilt Martin USA. The rare Tenor version of the Martin R-18 acoustic. The R-18T was discontinued in 1941. Solid spruce top with mahogany back/sides. The wood has aged beautifully giving this that special elusive resonant quality. The ladder bracing adds to this resonance and aids with sweet natural projection. The solid spruce top combines with the mahogany back/sides to create a very balanced tone. Deep lows and sweet highs focused in the midrange spectrum. This R-18T cuts through the mix while retaining solid note 'body'. Perfect. The mahogany neck features the comfortable soft V oval profile. The original 'bar' frets are in excellent condition. This guitar is an exceptional player. Aesthetically, this is everything you hope for with vintage Martin. Gorgeous sunburst finish, 'Martin' etched tailpiece, Grover Pat Pend 'banjo' tuners, raised pickguard, and multi-ply body binding. Excellent condition- especially for a guitar nearing its 80th birthday! There are several small checks(pics) but no breaks or repairs. The action is perfect- under 1/8" at the 12th fret. A really special piece. Included is a type-written letter from Martin dated 1971 dating the serial number. We have been an authorized Martin dealer for well over a decade. Buy with confidence. This includes the (possibly original) case. No reserve. Don't pass this by.
