I have a 1964 Martin D18 for sale with a new humicase fiberglass case with onboard humidification. This guitar is a bluegrass pickers dream with a loud, balanced, dry tone that only an old martin can give. It is quite rough with a lot of battle scars but everyone loves it, it is a real relic which everyone seems to want these days.
The guitar is all original to my knowledge other than the following parts: bridge and bridge pins have been replaced (I am unsure about the bridge plate), saddle and nut may not be original either.
Being a '64 means it has the old stlye (and original) nickel kluson tuners with oval buttons rather than the big ugly chrome tuners they started in '65. It is also one of the last guitars martin made with hide glue. In my opinion '64 was the last of the great years as '65, '66, and '67 brought some changes for the worse in my eyes. "65 brought the big ugly chrome grover tuners(or maybe late '64) and '66 and '67 brought black binding and pickguards where this one has tortoise shell pickguard and tortoise shell binding.
The guitar has had the neck set which means it plays great with very low action and there isn't anything this guitar needs. It has had a few cracks here and there but is structurally solid. It has one crack on either side of the waist on the sides maybe a couple inches long. Also, there is a small area on the back near the tail block that has 3 cracks. The top is in pretty good shape as far as cracks, it doesn't even have the B string crack that so many of these old Martins usually develope. The pickguard is also original and is not pulling up. This thing really gets a lot of attention with the rugged relic appearance and nice balanced tone. I'd like to keep it but I just have too many. Local pickup is offered (and preferred) and you are also welcome to come check it out if you'd like, let me know if you have any questions and please check my other items and feedback. No Reserve and $50 shipping to the Cont. US. Thanks
