From the son of the original Fort Collins Colorado owner, here we have a lovely historic 1936 Martin 0-17 Mahogany Guitar in Very Good condition in her non-original chipboard case.  Close inspection reveals that the instrument conforms to the specifications for a 1936 with a serial of #57961 and clearly marked as an 0-17.

Like so many of these wonderful old Martins, most of the finish on this one is gone though it looks great with a fine old patina of bare matte Mahogany with great figuring and a wonderful reddish tone of age and some checking apparent on the areas where the finish remains.  The guitar sounds great and plays nicely with a great chunky neck and 14 frets clear of the body.  Solid Mahogany construction with a beautiful Brazilian fretboard and headstock overlay.

At some point the instrument was fitted with replacement tuners and a thicker Rosewood belly style bridge although all the original parts are included in this auction.  At the present time the guitar is strung with nylon strings and the bridge is pulling up very slightly in the rear though the top is flat with minimal belly.  

With the action currently at 1/8" at the 12th fret, my thought would be to refit the guitar with  a thinner Martin style bridge (since the bridge needs reglued anyway) and slightly lower saddle to get the action back in the 5/64 range and not even have to reset the neck as the current action is likely the result of the thicker belly bridge and tall saddle.  I'll leave those decisions to the new owner!

There are no breaks or issues with the guitar and it looks and plays nicely as it sits.  The photos show that there is one fairly long but stable back crack and a shorter one with a bit of seam separation as well but the top and sides are crack free and very solid and the guitar presents as a very nice one indeed.

And, as many of us know, there does seem to be some cosmic rule of twos and it's worth noting that we also have another 1930's Martin 0-17 listed and you may wish to check that one out if you're in search of one of these.  Even with her nylon strings, this one plays and sounds great with a nice potential of some minor work to bring out her full greatness!!

Minimum Bidder Requirements

Shipping

We ship within a few business days after receiving your payment via ground service insured unless otherwise stated in the description. Please note that our shipping dates are contingent upon payment within 24 hours as specified above and your shipment may be delayed by up to 5 business days if you pay late.  Our shipping and auction dates are tightly related with our travel and other business activities and we hope you will kindly understand.

Most times there is a shipping rate calculator included in the auction.  We also include the weights and measures and detailed information about estimating international shipping in each listing.  We apologize but we cannot respond to individual requests for international shipping quotations, so please use the information in the listing to estimate your shipping costs. You will recieve an invoice with your shipping charges after auction's end.

We also generally charge an item appropriate materials, handling, and transport fee which covers our expenses to expertly pack and deliver your valuable item to the shipping company.  We reuse packing materials as a standard practice in our business and hope that you will do the same!

International Shipments

Warranty and Returns

Boulder Colorado.  Our shipping policy is noted above. We warrant that our description matches the item 100% and GuitarDesires will accept domestic U.S. returns only if the item is significantly not as described in this listing.  For practical reasons, all international sales are final with no returns though we will always work with you if there's any question with the shipping, insurance, or condition of the item when you receive it.
