This stunning
uke is an amazing survivor, and as far as I can tell, has no repairs of any
kind. It is in excellent + condition and
conforms in every respect to 60s catalog descriptions. Mahogany top, back and sides, beautiful
Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Overall length 30 1/2".
Ebony nut 1 5/16" wide. Bone saddle with plenty of bone above the bridge. That is to say, lots of room for future adjustment. Faux tortoise binding, original tuners and
bridge pins.
The frets are
excellent, as is the finish. With the strings depressed at the first and twelfth frets there is less than 1/64" at the 6th fret. I dare say that this is as close to dead straight as one can reasonably expect in a piece of this vintage. There is
very little playing wear, but being a nearly 50 year old instrument, there are
a few very minor items that must be mentioned.
Besides the occasional tiny chip in the finish on the edge of the
binding, there are 2 small finish checks just below the bridge (longer of the
two is ¼” long) and 2 at the lower bout approx ¾” to the right of center (longer
of the two is 5/8” long) all very difficult to photograph. One minor finish scratch 2 ¼” long in the
lower treble side also difficult to photograph.
These items are truly minor, only visible with the right light upon very close inspection, and mentioned in the interest of full
disclosure.
There is one
peculiar finish disruption on the top, treble side just below the waist and a
similar one on the back in the opposing location. They appear to be compression disturbances,
and there is no loss of finish or color irregularity (see photos).
They are hard to see in normal room light. My best guess is that they are evidence of some sort of strap
attachment, as there was no end pin on this model.
The original
hardshell case is in fine condition; retaining all of its covering (very minor
edge shagginess on top lower bout center)
otherwise only very light rubbing here and there. All of the original hardware is present and
functional (no key). The maroon fabric
interior is as vibrant and rich as the day it was installed! As a holiday special, I will include a fresh
set of strings to the winning bidder.
I have done my
very best to describe this instrument to the best of my abilities in print and
photographs. It needs no work, is ready
to play, is as fine an example as I have ever seen. This uke would be quite at home
in the finest collection of vintage instruments. Please examine the photos, study the text,
note my 100% feedback rating and bid with confidence!
Please note that due to the nature of vintage instruments,
this piece is sold as is with no return.
Payment must be rendered within 5 days of sale by Paypal (no e-checks). I will not ship outside of the
lower 48 continental United States.
Thank You for
your interest and happy bidding!
