ITEM: For your consideration is this vintage 1958 Martin D-21 acoustic guitar with the original case. Quite simply, this beautiful example is all original with no structural and no cosmetic issues. Features of this fine guitar include: a solid Sitka spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, a solid mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and mother of pearl dot inlays, metal button single-line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines, a Brazilian rosewood bridge, a tortoise guard, and the original hard case.
Having been well-preserved, this particular example (serial number 161545) is about as nice as they come, while still exhibiting minimal playing wear and expected signs of age. Similar examples have sold between $6,000-$9,000, so be sure to take advantage of our No Reserve auction with Free U.S.A/cheap Worldwide shipping and get this one for less!

The Martin D-2 is a very interesting guitar. As the model designation indicates, it fall right in between a Martin D-21 and D-28. It inherited the majority of it's important specifications and features from the slighty fancier D-28. Both the D-21 and the D-28 share Brazilian rosewood back and sides. However, the D-21features tortoise binding, like a D-18. Additionally, the fingerboard and bridge are made of Brazilian rosewood, instead of ebony like that of the D-28.

This guitar is in very excellent playing condition, and very nice cosmetic condition exhibiting normal signs of respected use. The neck is perfectly straight, and the original frets are in very excellent condition. The best part is that the neck angle is atypically fantastic, allowing the action to be comfortable all the way up to the last fret. It is very rare to find a Martin from this era that neither received a neck re-set, nor exhibits evidence of needing one.

This guitar plays easily, and was recently setup with 12-gauge Thomastiks, with which it sounds exceptional. This guitar is loud, clean and clear. It is extremely well-balanced with piano-like articulation combined with classic Martin warmth. The guitar sounds as strong as it is strucutrally intact. The precise clarity naturally reflects the solid bracing and bridge contact.

Most importantly, there are no cracks on the top, no cracks in the sides, none in the back and nothing of the sort on the neck. Structurally, it is perfect. Even the pickguard is perfectly intact without peeling of pikcguard drying cracks. Neither the nut nor bridge saddle have been adjusted or sanded. The original bridge saddle has plenty of original height, and can be replaced or modified to adjust playing if desired.
There is evidence of playing wear having worn through the finish on the treble side of the soundhole. The top has faded to a super attractive rich yellow color. There is also plentiful weather-checking on the top, and belt-buckle style wear on the back, located on the outer edge of bass side waist.

The original case is in very excellent original condition as well. There is an original late-60's peace sign/American flag sticker on the exterior of the case that can easily be removed if desired.

Please examine our 100 photos for a brilliant visual representation of this stunning acoustic guitar.
